Just thought I should let you all know that Noah had a great day today.
This morning he was able to enjoy splashing around in his bath, he'd kicked his infuse out and so we thought we would take advantage of this and I'm so glad we did. He managed to pee over me twice before I got him in his bath, the little tyke! I was able to take him out of his bed and have him on my lap to give him his bottle, which he drank all of his milk from (he's only been managing 50ml max and today it was 100ml). I read him a story, and he fell fast asleep.
This gave him plenty of energy to play and kick about when his Auntie Anneke and his friend Maarten from Arnhem arrived. His Aunt got loads of smiles out of him, he was focused completly on her while she helped him kick the stuffing out of his stuffed animals!
I have to admit to shedding a few tears of relief and happyness in the expressing room, (kolfing kammer), I feel hopeful that Noah turned a corner today. His incidents have gotten less frequent over the week, and for the last two days most have been managed without medication. We still don't know why this has happened, and to be honest, as long as they stop - I don't really care! :) He is now deep and peacefuly asleep, we wished him another restful night.

Noah Aleidus Glyndwr Drosten: Our son, born on the 9th of july, 2008. He is suffering from a very rare thing called CHAOS, congenital high airway obstruction syndrome. Most of this blog is about him as he is the focus of our lives. He has had a very special birthing procedure, called EXIT, and he will have to live with a little tube in his neck to breathe through. He also has a PDD/NOS diagnosis, he is on the autism spectrum.

CHAOS - Congenital High Airway Obstruction Syndrome. Basically a blockage in the top of the airway of an unborn baby. Since the lungs make a lot of fluid in unborn babies this leads to swelling of the lungs, fluid retention in the baby's body and other side effects. EXIT - Ex-Utero Intrapartum Treatment.
A very special type of caesarian (keizersnee) where the baby uses mommy for life support while half born. This allows the doctors to operate on him, and make sure he can breathe properly before the umbilical cord (navel streng) is cut. To make sure the mother does not go into labour, this is done under full general anesthesia (knocked out completely). Also special medication will prevent breaking down of the placenta.

Tracheostomy - A hole in the airway, usually located below the larynx (voice box, stembanden).
This hole is used to put in a small plastic tube, through which he can breathe. This tube will need very close monitoring in babies, as it can easily get blocked. Also it will prevent the baby from making noises as no air flow past the vocal cords.

Probable Causes: A genetic error on chromosome 12Q. This happened when Noah's first cells where dividing, as only a part of his cells have this error. The genes involved are 3, 5 and..... more info to be added later.

The kid obviously needed a sane person around for a change, so I guess, Maarten: thanks for coming over :-)
It was good to see you all, and am well impressed with the Ronald McDonald house, I can see how that makes life a lot easier.
You guys keep taking care of each other, will keep fingers crossed that you have seen the last of these spells.
